Microsoft To Pull DVD Support On Windows 8 08/07/2011
It looks like Microsoft is pulling DVD playback support in Windows 8. Some OEM's might stay away from Windows 8 for the Laptop and Desktop if they don't want to buy a license for each system or they might charge the consumer extra. OEM's that make netbooks and tablets will probably stay will Windows 8 since most don't have a optical drive. Microsoft started including DVD playback support in Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows 7 Home Premium and higher has DVD playback support. If Microsoft does end their partnership with Dolby and they don't find a alternative, customers will have to get their own license for DVD playback. Eg. CyberLink PowerDVD SE (Around $15 retail). With movie streaming on the rise, it's only time until all movie disks become obsolete. Apple is already phasing out optical drives. ~darkfur93 Written on LibreOffice 3.4.2 Add Comment | Author
